Hi Everyone!

Welcome to my doggie blog!

Today: I hung out with my friend Bear! She's a wonderful dog, a rescue like me, who's "inner puppy" comes out whenever we're together. I brought her a "Bear Day Present" that included one of my favorite goodies: a COW EAR! Bear really, really liked it! She let me share her beef bone chewy. Thanks Bear!

Yesterday:

I recently discovered TURKEY! My owners cooked ground turkey, rice and chicken stock. They've been putting it in my food... and it tastes great! For Thanksgiving, I played with my friend Klondike. My friend Bear recently had a birthday, and I'll be going to her party at the dog park soon.

Strange sounds, sights, and smells all contribute to a confusing and potentially dangerous time. That said, there are ways to make sure that your dog is secure, in both body and mind, during the festivities. Click Here to Read More

I chased the ball for hours and met about thirty other dogs. Now I know why I call it Fort "FUN"-Sten.

Tonight I went for a walk, and my people took me to a fenced off play park. No one was there, so they let me off leash and I had so much fun digging in the wood chips and sniffing under the swings. The best time I had tonight was when I found the slide. I walked up the play structure and ran down the side. It was so exciting I kept running and running, to the end of the fence. I'm part "some type of hound," so running at high speeds is something I need to do now and then.

My humans are amazed, because I go from 60 to 0 in no time at all. I'm very good at home and I've been with my people now for 48 hours. At my old home, I was alone for 8 -10 hours a day. My new people work at home a lot and take me everywhere. I even walked around the mall today. This is a fun new place and I'm so glad I'm staying here.

Bark on the 4th of July

My Beautiful Friend:
Bear-Lee

On July 4th, I had so much fun at Bear's house. A whole pack of dogs came over and so did their people. Most of us had a lot to talk and sniff about because we were rescues (apparently that's a big thing in the SF Bay Area). We ran and played for hours. Bear is so smart! She managed to will two hot-dogs to her throughout the evening. I'm not that good at getting food out of people, but I did wag my tail in some Ketchup!

Roll of Starfish, Hear my Woof

They took me to the beach! Not just any beach... this one's right below the Golden Gate Bridge and you have to walk down a million steps (through great smelling forest) before you get to a private cove, where there's not much sand, but head sized rocks. Beyond those rocks... waves.... I got to play in what the humans call the "inner tidal" zone. I climbed bolders as tall as my humans and got to be off leash in a secure place for over two hours. Then, I dug in a patch of sand. I found a starfish and got totaly wet. What a great place to spend a Saturday!

Quilt Land in San Francisco

Wow. I went for a walk on a busy street today. I even went to one of the MUNI Train Stations and watched two trains come in. So much to smell, not enough time.

Also, I went to Black Cat Quilts today. The people there were super nice to me. My person got fabric to make a fancy hankerchief for me to wear in public.

The best part... I met a cat named PEPPER at Black Cat Quilts. She looked at me and said, "hey, I own this quilt shop... who are you?" I said, "woof."

Tomorow I think I'm going to a picknick somewhere with lots of trees. Very fun.

Remote Puppy Pacifying

I don't like being left alone... but as a puppy in a human society, it's something I've got to deal with now and then. My humans have been great in never leaving me for more than 15 min, but today... they went to the store... without me. I have a little crate/pen that I like to lay in at night and my humans left me with a big chewie filled with peanutbutter. Then, they shut the front door. I barked, and barked and whined.... but then I heard their voices after a few min.

"Hi Pepper," they said. It turns out they left the cell phone on speaker so they could hear me, and I could hear them when they took the phone off mute. Wow. What a relief to know that they could hear me. If I started barking loudly, they let me know that wasn't okay. If I was quietly chewing my chewie, they said I was being a good girl. It's like they're psychic.

When they got home, I got a chicken strip. I love this kind of training!

Dogs & Inmates

Here's a neat program I learned about that helps dogs and inmates.

About The Pen Pals of San Quentin: The program teaches specially selected inmates how to teach fundamental commands and help the dogs overcome special problems before they return to MHS (Marin Humane Society) to enter the adoption cycle. These pups need quality time with a person -- and time is something the convicts have in abundance. The prisoners also proved to have big hearts that are definitely up to the job.
The program began when Larry Carson of the MHS behavior and training department, saw an Animal Planet Channel special called "Cell Dogs." The Genesis Award-winning program tells the story of dogs placed with inmates for rehabilitation, and of the loving gifts the animals and men gave to each other. Click Here to Read More
